Skip Context Tree Switching

چکیده
Context Tree Weighting is a powerful probabilistic sequence prediction technique that efficiently performs Bayesian model averaging over the class of all prediction suffix trees of bounded depth. In this paper we show how to generalize this technique to the class of K-skip prediction suffix trees. Contrary to regular prediction suffix trees,K-skip prediction suffix trees are permitted to ignore up toK contiguous portions of the context. This allows for significant improvements in predictive accuracy when irrelevant variables are present, a case which often occurs within recordaligned data and images. We provide a regretbased analysis of our approach, and empirically evaluate it on the Calgary corpus and a set of Atari 2600 screen prediction tasks.

The Dense Skip Tree: A Cache-Conscious Randomized Data Structure
We introduce the dense skip tree, a novel cache-conscious randomized data structure. Algorithms for search, insertion, and deletion are presented, and they are shown to have expected cost O(logn). The dense skip tree obeys the same asymptotic properties as the skip list and the skip tree. A series of properties on the dense skip tree is proven, in order to show the probabilistic organization of...
متن کاملRange queries over skip tree graphs
The support for complex queries, such as range, prefix and aggregation queries, over structured peer-to-peer systems is currently an active and significant topic of research. This paper demonstrates how Skip Tree Graph, as a novel structure, presents an efficient solution to that problem area through provision of a distributed search tree functionality on decentralised and dynamic environments....
متن کاملSkip B-Trees
We describe a new data structure, the Skip B-Tree, that combines the advantages of skip graphs with features of traditional Btrees. A skip B-Tree provides efficient search, insertion and deletion operations. The data structure is highly fault tolerant even to adversarial failures, and allows for particularly simple repair mechanisms. Related resource keys are kept in blocks near each other enab...
متن کاملSkip-Splay: Toward Achieving the Unified Bound in the BST Model
We present skip-splay, the first binary search tree algorithm known to have a running time that nearly achieves the unified bound. Skip-splay trees require only O(m lg lg n + UB(σ)) time to execute a query sequence σ = σ1 . . . σm. The skip-splay algorithm is simple and similar to the splay algorithm.
متن کاملA Limit Theory for Random Skip
The skip list was introduced by Pugh in 1989 as a data structure for dictionary operations. Using a binary tree representation of skip lists, we obtain the limit law for the path lengths of the leaves in the skip list . We also show that the height (maximal path length) of a skip list holding n elements is in probability asymptotic to c log, / n, where c is the unique solution greater than 1 of...
